In 2023, the Verwood and District Horticultural Society launched a brand new growing competition for 3 to 15 year olds in Verwood - the Great Verwood Grow Off, challenging local school children to grow​

• the tallest sunflower

• the longest bean

• the heaviest courgette

Free seeds were distributed from the VDHS, and children nurtured their plants through the summer.  The results were announced at the Autumn Show on 9 September :

 

Hannah Scott, 4, won the tallest sunflower at 270cm in height.

Heidi Greensmith, 10, won the longest bean at 33cm in length.

Boo Elmer, 5, won the heaviest courgette at 3708g in weight.
